The default setting upon entering the alumni portal (‘Portal’) shows your contact details are hidden and will not be visible to other alumni and University staff, unless you choose otherwise upon logging in. To change your display preferences, please go to the Update My Profile option once you have logged into the site.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. These terms and conditions (‘Terms’) govern your use of the Portal. Please read these Terms carefully before using the Portal.
2. The Portal is exclusively accessible for categories and/or individuals who have become eligible and approved by the University as an alumnus, usually 28 days after their registration.
3. By using the Portal you acknowledge that you have read, accepted, and understood the Terms. If you do not accept these Terms, do not use the Portal.
4. THE SERVICES
4.1 The Portal, allows you to access the following(“the Services”):
- Alumni Library Online,
- Lifelong Careers Service including Career coaching and career learning packs,
- Alumni Directory,
- Events and Event bookings,
- Recorded content – webinars, podcasts,
- Written articles and recorded content – webinars, podcasts.
4.2 It is important that you check your contact details and the information the University hold about you on the directory and amend it as appropriate so the University can continue to be in touch with you with on relevant and interesting communications. Any false information provided by you may lead to the termination of the Services.
4.3 Any user ID and password issued by the University is personal and confidential to you and you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account information. You should not share your log in details with anyone else. You must take all steps to prevent its unauthorised use, for example, you must not pass your log in details to another person for them to access the directory. Responsibility for the security of any passwords issued rests with you.
4.4 The University may require you to change your password from time to time for security reasons and shall notify you accordingly.
4.5 You must inform the University immediately if you have any reason to believe that any password has become known to anyone else or if any password is being or is likely to be used in an unauthorised or prohibited way.
4.6 You may unsubscribe from some or all alumni communications at any time you wish on the Portal.
5. ACCESS TO THE SERVICES
5.1 The University will employ reasonable endeavours to provide you with connectivity to the Services and provide full instructions to you on how to use the Services. The University will also take reasonable endeavours to respond to enquiries by phone or email about the Services to our inbox alumni@cranfield.ac.uk or telephone line +44 (0)1234 754456 during standard office hours (Mon to Fri, 9 am to 5.00 pm).
5.2 The Portal and the content of the Portal may be changed by the University at any time without notice to you. If you have any comments to make about changes, email the inbox alumni@cranfield.ac.uk
6. USE OF THE SERVICES
6.1 The copyright and intellectual property rights in all information on the Portal (including without limitation, photographs, logo, trademarks and graphical images) are owned by the University or its licensors.
6.2 Your access to the Services via the Portal is for your personal use only as an alumni.
6.3 You may search the Portal, display the information on a computer screen or take reasonable copies of the information or store the information in electronic form on a computer for your own personal use. This may include copying news items or event details. Please see 7.2 for extracting directory contact information.
6.4 Except as expressly set out above, in relation to the Services, you may NOT:
6.4.1 copy, print out or otherwise reproduce any materials relating to any part of the Portal or its contents, except if permitted under these Terms;
6.4.2 distribute, sell, or otherwise dispose of the information;
6.4.3 copy, alter, modify, adapt (including but not limited to translating, decompiling, disassembling, distributing or creating derivative works) any part of the Portal;
6.4.4 remove or obscure the copyright notice or notices contained in any information retrieved from the Portal;
6.4.5 assign, sub-licence or otherwise dispose of your rights under these Terms.
6.5 As an alumnus of the University you will have access to the Alumni Library Online, this service is only for personal use and not commercial gain. Misuse of the Alumni Library Online will lead to your access to the service being terminated. 6.6 Your failure to use the Portal in accordance with these Terms may result in your access to the Portal and the Services being immediately terminated.
7. RULES FOR ONLINE CONDUCT
7.1 You are prohibited from posting or transmitting to or from the Portal, directory or on our social media platforms:
7.1.1 any material that is illegal, offensive, abusive, obscene, indecent, threatening or defamatory;
7.1.2 any material that is bigoted, hateful, racially offensive or discriminatory;
7.1.3 any material that contains vulgar or obscene language or images;
7.1.4 any material that is in breach of confidence or breach of privacy;
7.1.5 any material that is not in your copyright or other intellectual property, or for which you have not obtained all necessary licences and/or approvals;
7.1.6 any unsolicited advertising or other promotional material, and any unsolicited chain e-mails (spam) or targeted e-mails. For example, promotion of your own business or business service, or a third-party business or business service.
7.1.7 any mailing list that is generated from the alumni directory.
7.2 The contact information for alumni you can view on the directory can be used for one-to-one contact with another alumni through the directory system. You must not export data into another system, for example a spreadsheet or database to use as a mailing list, nor should you send group emails that include unsolicited advertising or promotional content as specified in 7.1.6 above. Single addresses can be copied for individual post or importing into an email system such as Outlook or Hotmail for personal use and must not be shared with other people.
7.3 The University reserves the right to remove any content which in its opinion violates the provisions of clause 7.
7.4 You must not yourself, nor must you encourage others nor permit any other person to:
7.4.1 create, insert, or knowingly or recklessly transmit any virus on the Portal;
7.4.2 undertake any unauthorised access to any section of the Portal.
7.5 You agree to respect fellow users of the Services, practice appropriate behaviour, as outlined in these Terms, and not abuse the privilege of having access to the Portal. If complaints about your use or behaviour are received by the University, you may receive a written or verbal warning and if your behaviour continues or your behaviour is in serious breach of these Terms, your access may be suspended and/or terminated with immediate effect.
7.6 You must comply with all applicable laws and regulations while using the Portal. Any illegal activities will result in immediate termination of access to the Portal.
8. TERMINATION, SUSPENSION AND CANCELLATION
8.1 The Services and/or the Portal may be temporarily suspended if the computer systems used to provide them are under maintenance or repair or are otherwise unavailable. The University will use its reasonable endeavours to restore the availability as soon as possible.
8.2 You may cancel the Services and this agreement at any time by emailing alumni@cranfield.ac.uk – the University will then terminate your access to the Services.
8.3 The University may discontinue the Services and terminate this agreement at any time with immediate effect at its sole discretion.
8.4 Further, the University may suspend, discontinue access to the Services and/or terminate this agreement with immediate effect if:
8.4.1 your user ID or password is being used by an unauthorised user or by a different user; or
8.4.2 the Services and/or the Portal are being used by you in a way that breaches these Terms.
8.5 Access to all alumni Services, communications and benefits will be terminated with immediate effect if you:
8.5.1 bring the University into disrepute;
8.5.2 abuse the University staff, alumni, or students verbally, physically or online (including via email correspondence or social media platforms).
9. DISCLAIMER
9.1 You agree to use the Portal at your own risk and the University does not warrant:
9.1.1 the accuracy or completeness of the material on the Portal;
9.1.2 the material on the Portal will continue to be available to alumni;
9.1.3 the Portal will be uninterrupted, virus-free or error free.
9.2 The material on the Portal is provided to you on an “as is”, “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by law, the University excludes any representation of any warranties (whether express or implied by law) including the implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness of a particular purpose, non-infringement, compatibility, security and accuracy.
10. LIABILITY
10.1 To the extent permitted by law, the University accepts no liability for any loss, damage or claim of any kind including but not limited to that resulting from:
10.1.2 any errors in or omissions to the information on the Portal;
10.1.3 the unavailability or interruption to the Services or any features of the Services;
10.1.4 your use or misuse of the Services;
10.1.5 the content of the Portal;
10.1.6 acts, events, omissions or accidents beyond the University’s reasonable control which result in the University being prevented or delayed in performing its obligations under these Terms including without limitation default of sub-contractors or suppliers of the materials, strike, lock-out or other industrial disputes, failure of a utility service or transport or communication network, act of God, epidemic, pandemic, Covid, war, riot, civil commotion, malicious damage, compliance with any law or governmental order, rule, regulation or direction, accident, breakdown of plant or machinery, fire, flood or storm.
10.2 Except as expressly and specifically provided in these Terms you assume sole responsibility for any decision made or action taken from the use of the Services, and for conclusions drawn from such use.
10.3 The University shall not be liable for any loss of profits, loss of business, depletion of goodwill and for such all similar losses or pure economic loss or for any special, indirect or consequential loss, costs, damages, charges or expenses however arising.
10.4 You agree to fully indemnify the University against any liabilities, claims, costs, loss (including consequential loss) or damage incurred as a result of any material you post, or as a result of any breach by you of these Terms or your use of the Services.
10.5 Nothing in these Terms of use is intended to exclude the University‘s liability for death or personal injury caused by the University’s proven negligence or fraudulent misrepresentation.
11. PRIVACY AND DATA PROTECTION
11.1 The University is committed to protecting your privacy and keeping you informed on how your personal data is processed. This following information relates specifically to the use of the Portal:
11.1.1 You may unsubscribe from some or all alumni communications at any time you wish on the Portal;
11.1.2 You may use the contact information for alumni you can view on the directory for one-to-one contact with another alumni through the directory system;

12. LINKS TO AND FROM OTHER WEBSITES
12.1 Links to third-party websites on the Portal are provided solely for information only.
12.2 If you use these links, you leave the Portal and access these at your own risk.
12.3 The University has not reviewed the third-party websites, for example discounts and special offers especially for alumni. It does not control and is not responsible for those websites or their contents or availability and the University accepts no responsibility or liability for any material communicated by the third-party websites nor any loss or damage that may arise from your use of them.
12.4 The University does not endorse or make any representations of those links, or any material found on those sites.
13. EVENT PAYMENTS AND BOOKINGS

14. CHANGES TO THESE CONDITIONS
14.1 From time to time the University may update these Terms.
14.2 The University encourage you to review these Terms regularly to ensure that you are aware of any changes made as you will be legally bound by any amended Terms if you continue to use the Portal after the change. Certain provisions of these Terms may be superseded by expressly designated legal notices or terms located on particular pages of the Portal.
15. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
