IMPORTANT NOTICE: The alumni service includes an online directory of all alumni of the University, available on the secure portal. The default setting upon entering the portal is that your contact details will be displayed and will be visible to other alumni, unless you choose otherwise upon logging in. To change your display preferences, please go the Update My Profile option once you have logged into the site.
These terms and conditions govern your use of the Cranfield University alumni website, portal and directory, the services and your relationship with Cranfield University. Please read these terms carefully before using the portal. Using the portal indicates that you accept these terms and conditions. If you do not accept these terms and conditions, do not use the portal or the services offered.
1 THE SERVICES
1.1 Access to the free alumni services of the Cranfield University is automatic when you become eligible as an alumnus, usually a month or so after beginning your course, or if you have participated in a relevant CPD programme.
1.2 It is important that you check your contact details and the information we hold about you on the directory and amend it as appropriate so that we can continue to be in touch with you with relevant and interesting communications.
1.3 Any user ID and password issued by Cranfield University is personal and confidential to you. You should not share your log in details with anyone else. You must take all steps to prevent its unauthorised use, for example passing your log in details to another person for them to access the directory.
1.4 Cranfield University may require you to change your password from time to time for security reasons and shall notify you accordingly.
1.5 You must inform us immediately if you have any reason to believe that any password has become known to anyone else or if any password is being or is likely to be used in an unauthorised or prohibited way.
1.6 You may unsubscribe from some or all services at any time you wish on the portal.
1.7 The Premium Service – Knowledge Interchange Online - is a subscription service which you can access by paying the appropriate fee.
2 ACCESS TO THE SERVICES
2.1 Cranfield University will employ reasonable efforts to provide you with a high standard of connectivity to the services and provide full instructions to you on how to use the services. We will also take all reasonable effort to respond to enquiries by phone or email about the services to our inbox alumni@cranfield.ac.uk or telephone line +44 (0)1234 754456 during standard office hours (Mon to Fri, 9 am to 5.30 pm).
2.2 The portal and the content of the portal may be changed by Cranfield University at any time without notice to you. If you have any comments to make about changes, email the inbox alumni@cranfield.ac.uk
3 USE OF THE SERVICES
3.1 The copyright and other intellectual property rights in all information on the portal (including without limitation, photographs and graphical images) are owned by Cranfield University or its licensors.
3.2 Your access to the services via the portal is for your personal use only.
3.3 You may search the portal, display the information on a computer screen or take reasonable copies of the information or store the information in electronic form on a computer for your own personal use. This may include copying news items or event details. Please see 4.2 for extracting directory contact information.
3.4 Except as expressly set out above, in relation to the standard services, you may NOT:
3.4.1 copy, print out or otherwise reproduce any materials relating to any part of the portal, except if permitted under these conditions;
3.4.2 distribute, sell or otherwise dispose of the information;
3.4.3 copy, alter, modify, adapt (including but not limited to translating, decompiling, disassembling, distributing or creating derivative works) any part of the portal;
3.4.4 remove or obscure the copyright notice or notices contained in any information retrieved from the portal;
3.4.5 purport to assign, sub-licence or otherwise dispose of your rights under these conditions.
3.5 If you have subscribed to the Premium Services, you will have access to the Cranfield Knowledge Interchange Online. You agree to comply with and adhere to the Terms of Use outline on their website (https://www.som.cranfield.ac.uk/som/p15124/Knowledge-Interchange/Terms-Conditions) which you will be asked to accept when using the Cranfield Knowledge Interchange Online. Your failure to use the Cranfield Knowledge Interchange Online in accordance with the Terms of Use may result in your access to the Cranfield Knowledge Interchange Online and the services being terminated.
3.6 Your failure to use the portal in accordance with these conditions may result in your access to the portal and the services being immediately terminated.
4 RULES FOR ONLINE CONDUCT
4.1 You are prohibited from posting or transmitting to or from the portal or directory:
4.1.1 any material that is illegal, offensive, abusive, obscene, indecent, threatening or defamatory;
4.1.2 any material that is bigoted, hateful, racially offensive or discriminatory;
4.1.3 any material that contains vulgar or obscene language or images;
4.1.4 any material that is in breach of confidence or breach of privacy;
4.1.5 any material for which you have not obtained all necessary licences and/or approvals;
4.1.6 any unsolicited advertising or other promotional material, and any unsolicited chain e-mails (spam) or targeted e-mails. For example, promotion of your own business or business service, or a third party business or business service.
4.1.7 any mailing list that is generated from the alumni directory.
4.2 The contact information for alumni you can view on the directory can be used for one-to-one contact with another alumnus through the directory system. You must not export data into another system, for example a spreadsheet or database to use as a mailing list, nor should you send group emails that include unsolicited advertising or promotional content as specified in 4.1.6 above. Single addresses can be copied for individual post or importing into an email system such as Outlook or Hotmail.
4.3 Cranfield University reserves the right to remove any content which has been brought to its attention and which violates the provisions of clause 4.1.
4.4 You must not yourself, or encourage others or permit any other person to:
4.4.1 create, insert or knowingly or recklessly transmit any virus on the portal;
4.4.2 hundertake any unauthorised access to any section of the portal.
4.5 You agree to respect fellow users of the services and not abuse the privilege of having access to the portal. If complaints about your use or behaviour are received by Cranfield University, you may receive a written or verbal warning and if your behaviour continues or your behaviour is in serious breach of these conditions, your access may be suspended and/or terminated with immediate effect.
5 TERMINATION, SUSPENSION AND CANCELLATION
5.1 The services and the portal may be temporarily suspended if the computer systems used to provide the services are under maintenance or repair or are otherwise unavailable. Cranfield University will use its reasonable endeavours to restore the availability of the services as soon as possible.
5.2 You may cancel the services and this agreement at any time by e-mailing alumni@cranfield.ac.uk – we will then action immediate termination of the services.
5.3 Cranfield University may discontinue the services and terminate this agreement at any time with immediate effect.
5.4 Cranfield University may suspend, discontinue access to the services and/or terminate this agreement with immediate effect if:
5.4.1 your user ID or password is being used by an unauthorised user or by a different user; or
5.4.2 the services and/or the portal are being used by you in a way that breaches these conditions.
6 DISCLAIMER
6.1 While Cranfield University endeavours to ensure that the information on the portal is correct, it does not warrant the accuracy or completeness of the material on the portal, or warrant that the information will continue to be available to alumni. The material on the portal is provided to you on an “as in”, “as available” basis, without any conditions, warranties or other terms of any kind.
7 LIABILITY
7.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cranfield University shall not be liable for any loss, injury, claim, liability or damage of any kind resulting in any way from:
7.2.1 any errors in or omissions to the information on the portal;
7.2.2 the unavailability or interruption to the services or any features of the services;
7.2.3 your use or misuse of the services;
7.2.4 the content of the portal;
7.2.5 acts, events, omissions or accidents beyond Cranfield University’s reasonable control which result in Cranfield University being prevented or delayed in performing its obligations under these conditions, including without limitation default of sub-contractors or suppliers of the materials, strike, lock-out or other industrial disputes, failure of a utility service or transport or communication network, act of God, war, riot, civil commotion, malicious damage, compliance with any law or governmental order, rule, regulation or direction, accident, breakdown of plant or machinery, fire, flood or storm.
7.2 Except as expressly and specifically provided in these conditions you assume sole responsibility for any decision made or action taken from the use of the services, and for conclusions drawn from such use.
7.3 Cranfield University shall not be liable for any loss of profits, loss of business, depletion of goodwill and for such all similar losses or pure economic loss or for any special, indirect or consequential loss, costs, damages, charges or expenses however arising.
8 PRIVACY
8.1 Cranfield University takes your privacy seriously and aims to comply with all relevant UK data protection laws. Any information that you give to Cranfield University in the course of the provision of the services shall be used in accordance with the University’s privacy policy at http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/about/alumni/alumni-portal .
9 LINKS TO AND FROM OTHER WEBSITES
9.1 Links to third party websites on the portal are provided solely for your convenience. If you use these links, you leave the portal and access these at your own risk. Cranfield University has not reviewed all of the third party websites, for example discounts and special offers especially for alumni. It does not control and is not responsible for those websites or their contents or availability. We therefore do not endorse or make any representations about them, or any material found on those sites.
9.2 You may not link to the Cranfield University alumni portal without our prior written permission.
10 CHANGES TO THESE CONDITIONS
10.1 Cranfield University may revise these conditions at any time and it is important, therefore, that you regularly check these conditions, because they are binding on you. Certain provisions of these conditions may be superseded by expressly designated legal notices or terms located on particular pages of our portal.
11 COMPLAINTS
11.1 In the unlikely event that you have cause to complain your complaint can be sent by e-mail to alumni@cranfield.ac.uk or by post to Cranfield Alumni Relations and Development Office, Blg 111, Cranfield University, Cranfield, Bedfordshire, MK43 0AL.
