We greatly value the expert advice alumni can offer the University by sitting on our governing bodies, by guest lecturing for us or speaking at events.
One way alumni give back to Cranfield is to sit on one of the University’s governing bodies and share knowledge and expertise. We’re grateful to alumni for their informed guidance to the University on its strategic direction, including positioning of the University internationally, building our brand and enhancing our networks. Alumni are currently supporting the University by:
- Sitting on a School/ Department or Course Advisory Board
- Becoming a University Alumni President, sitting on the University Council
- Becoming a School of Management Alumni President, sitting on the School of Management International Advisory Board.
Alumni also:
- Guest lecture on our programmes
- Speak at events, such as our Annual Alumni Conference or Reunion.

Inspire our students
Students gain enormously from the input of alumni both during their studies and after they leave. As true role models, alumni often help by speaking to students at events, organising a student project, recruiting a student, or attending Careers events or fairs.
Countless students have benefited from the support and inspiration they get from alumni. Students gain enormously from listening to alumni speak, and getting the chance to build relationships with alumni can lead to jobs and internships, or provide longer-term guidance and mentoring. Giving back in this way can be enormously rewarding and alumni find they develop their own support skills in the process.
Ways that alumni help enhance our students’ experience while they’re at Cranfield include:
- Speaking at a student led event
- Speaking to students as part of their course
- Judging student competitions and providing feedback.
Career development The University’s Careers Development Service works with volunteers to help our students and alumni achieve the most from their careers. There are lots of ways that alumni can get involved in aspects of their work, for instance:
- Provide a student project (MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain)
- Provide an internship for a MSc Management student
- Speak at a Cranfield Careers event
- Represent your company at a Cranfield careers fair
- Recruit Cranfield students and alumni
- Become a recruitment champion for your organisation
- Support our MBA mock interview programme
- Host an information session or recruitment presentation evening
- Host a careers workshop.

Support student recruitment and build our brand
Alumni are our best ambassadors. Championing the University has a huge impact on our global reputation and means we can continue to recruit the best students. Whether it’s by providing a testimonial or attending a recruitment fair, alumni can make a real difference to the Cranfield brand.
Alumni who inspire prospective students help us bring in the most talented students on our programmes and therefore enhance Cranfield’s international reputation and brand. Attracting and educating the brightest students here at Cranfield means we’ll be the go-to University for our areas of specialism and future generations can benefit as alumni once did themselves.
Ways of helping with this could be to:
- Refer a student
- Provide a testimonial on your course
- Attend a student recruitment fair outside of the UK
- Attend an MBA Preview Day or University Open Day and meet with prospective students
- Use Cranfield for your (and colleagues) lifelong learning needs through our Executive Education and Customised Executive Development programmes
- Provide a video testimonial.

Grow the alumni network
Alumni volunteers are vital in growing an active, engaged and dynamic alumni body. There are many ways alumni can assist with expanding our communities around the world and in doing so, widen their own networks.
We are lucky to have an influential network of over 60,000 alumni in 167 countries but we rely on the support of volunteers to keep this community engaged and active so that all of our alumni gain the maximum benefit from being a part of it. Helping in the following ways could also greatly benefit the careers and pathways of alumni themselves due to an increase in connections and a raised profile.
Alumni help us by:
- Providing a testimonial for our use
- Becoming a School of Management Year Representative for a class
- Joining an international community committee or lead a new international community
- Organising events
- Becoming a UK regional volunteer
- Sharing good news for a news item or feature article
- Speaking at an alumni event
- Being profiled in an alumni publication
