Here is your quarterly summary of some of the successes of Cranfield alumni:
- Dr Stephen Louis (DBA 2007) features in an ICT Pulse podcast discussing business continuity and technology resilience during COVID-19.
- The first all-female crew are set for the ‘mission to Mars’ research station in the US early next year, including Cranfield alumna Marta Ferran Marques (MSc Aerospace Materials 2018, currently PhD Manufacturing student) and Cristina Vazquez Reynolds (MSc Aerospace Materials 2018). The Cranfield press release has been picked up by several local/tech news outlets.
- The Nichol Group Consultant Temi Afolabi (MBA 2020), is set to feature as a speaker in a webinar hosted by the Association for Project Management (APM) on 14 July.
- Dmitry Verbov (MBA 2012), has been appointed Head of Centre for Innovative Development at Russian Railways.
- Tim Rolfe (MSc Human Factors & Safety Assessment in Aeronautics 2015), has been appointed CEO of HeliOffshore.
- HSBC Global Investment and Asia Investment Director Dr Bill Maldonado (MBA, 1992), featured in article on the topic of markets in Asia to invest in during the second half of 2020.
- Neeraj Mittal (MBA 2000) was a speaker in a UK India Business Council webinar on the topic of UK co-operation with Tamil Nadu and the post-COVID recovery.
- Dr Ruth Sealy (PhD Leadership 2008) has been named in the People Management Diversity and Inclusion power list, recognising 20 individuals making a significant impact on diversity and inclusion in their field.
- Further coverage of the appointment of Dr Stelios Kyriacou (PhD Engineering 1990) as Chief Technical Officer at ERMA First.
- Dr Adesola Adeduntan (MBA 2005) features in an article published by The Nation: “Adesola Adeduntan’s Midas Touch”.
- Derek Annan (PhD Biotechnology 2009) has been appointed Scientific Solutions Director at Bedrock Healthcare Communications.
- Leonardo Silva (MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management 2011) features in an article discussing Product Lifecycle Management and digitalisation in the fashion industry post-COVID-19.
- Anthony Petteford (MSc Air Transport Management 1987) features in an interview on Flight Global, discussing his career path and the delivery of innovative airline training programmes.
- Peter Liebert (MSc International Security) has been appointed as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer at Cerner Government Services.
- Bo Li (MSc Digital Image Processing 2007) features in a piece published by several Chinese news outlets, documenting the experience of Chinese nationals living in Britain during the COVID-19 lockdown.
- Marc-Yves Touitou (Managing People Effectively 1992) has been appointed Group CIO of the SIG Plc group’s Paris site.
- Joseph Nugent (MSc Managing Organisational Performance 2012) has been appointed to the Irish National Police and Security Service Audit Risk Committee.
- David Kauders (MBA 1974) comments on the risk of Keynesian economic policies followed by governments deepening the global downturn.
- Rob Swinney (MSc Avionics 1987) is set to speak at a British Interplanetary Society event in September, discussing interstellar precursor missions.
- Vera Casaca (MSc Molecular Medicine 2008) has won the Feature Film Prize at the ‘Avanca Pitch Sessions 2020’ (part of the Avanca 2020 Film Festival).
- Paul Oliver (MSc Bioaeronautics 1989) has been appointed as President and Chief Operating Officer at Certified Aviation Services (CAS).
- Nick Bradley (Business Leadership 2009) is set to speak at an online event hosted by the IoD North Yorkshire Fellowship Forum, discussing the importance of businesses having a purpose.
- Naguib Mohd Nor (MSc Aerospace Vehicle Design 2000) President of Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA) features in an interview with KL Lifestyle.
- Robert Hanna (MBA 1993) is set to speak at a panel discussion hosted by Litigation Finance Journal.
- Glen Collinson (EMBA 1994) has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director at Fire Angel Safety Technology, effective 1 August 2020.
- Dr Mohammad Abid (PhD Artificial Intelligence 1990) has been named as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peshawar.
- Haitham Essam (MBA 2008) has been appointed as CEO of Careem Egypt.
- Sarah Black-Smith (MSc Operations Excellence 2016), Head of Factory Operations at Siemens Digital Industries features in an interview published by The Muse.
- Nico Buchholz (MSc Air Transport 1990) will be a panellist on an Aviation Week webinar this Thursday: ‘Route to recovery: fleets planning and forecasting for 2020 and beyond’.
- Antonio Dias (MBA 2001) features in an interview published by Hotelier News.
- Mahmoud Sabban (MSc Thermal Power 2004) features in a report published by Saudi Aramco: ‘Benchmarking a large gas turbine fleet’.
- Dr Nna (PhD Health 2009) is set to be a speaker at a three-day Biostatistics course held by the Association for Good Clinical Practice in Nigeria later this month.
- Mr T.C. Ihejirika (Strategic and Operational Management) has been appointed as Executive Vice-Chairman of the Havilah Open Door Group.
- Flagon Bekker (MBA 2002) has been appointed as the new Managing Director at PNG Power, based in Papua New Guinea.
- Dr Lynette Nusbacher (Defence Strategic Leadership) features in a biography published by Tuko.
- Kholiwe Makholiso (Executive Leadership Programme – IESE Business School in partnership with Cranfield) features in an article published by ITWeb discussing her career path to becoming Country Manager and Vice-President of Software AG.
- Miguel Carranza (MSc Computational and Software Techniques in Engineering 2012) features in an interview discussing his start-up business RevenueCat – a platform that allows developers to monetise their apps through subscriptions.
- Marc Weber Bång(MSc Air Transport 2018) discusses the opportunity for airlines and airports to boost their ancillary revenue generation through digital solutions, outlining six companies paving the way.
- Hassan Yousaf Shah (MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management 2002) has written an article discussing delayed electricity tariff adjustments in Karachi.
- Xavier Becuwe (MSc Land Management 2009), has been appointed as Head of Global Digital Grid and V2G CoE at Envision Digital France.
- Philip Dunne (MBA 1995) has joined Roland Berger as Managing Partner.
- Daya Ratnayake (Defence Management) has been appointed as the new Chairman of Colombo School of Business and Management.
- Ignacio Del Castillo (MBA 2012) is a speaker at a live webinar ‘The role of digital identity in a physically distanced world’ on 15 September.
- Flagon Bekker (MBA 2002): newly appointed Managing Director at PNG Power Limited, Flagon Bekker, will resume office next month once the process for his engagement is completed.
- Dr Sami bin Muhammad Al-Sereiri (PhD Air Transport) has been appointed Director General of Technical Education and Training at the Saudi Aviation Engineering and Industry Company.
- James McComas (Cranfield Talent Development Program 2017) features in an interview published by the Institute of Hospitality, after he recently became General Manager at Champneys, Eastwell Manor.
- Karam Chand (MSc Air Transport 1992) features in an article published by CFI, outlining his career path from graduate trainee to becoming CEO of Royal Brunei Airlines.
- Dr Adesola Adeduntan (MBA 2005) will be honoured alongside other prominent African business leaders in the Forbes Best of Africa awards on 11 September, in an online event which will feature a keynote speech from former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo. - Professor Beverley Gibbs (Executive MBA 2001) has been appointed as Chief Academic Officer at the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE).
- Dr Jason Hill (PhD Aeronautics 2004) features in an article discussing the launch of a new luxury Rotorcraft by his company Hill Helicopters.
- Anthony McVeigh (MSc Aerospace 1964) an award-winning helicopter engineer who had a 46-year career at Boeing, passed away on 28 June.
- Julie Clarke features in an interview published by the Kent Messenger discussing her career path and founding her business consultancy company, Reachable Ltd.

- Jamie Waller (BGP 2010) features in an interview published by Fresh Business Thinking, discussing his journey into entrepreneurship and philanthropy.
- Komal Baldwa (MSc Strategic Marketing 2005) features in an interview with Asia Biz today discussing how she went about founding Bleu Cares, focusing on non-toxic contraceptive products for females.
- Dr Sveinn Gudmundsson (PhD Aeronautics 1995) has been appointed Professor and Dean of the School of Business at Reykjavik University.
- Jon Lee-Davey (EngD at Silsoe, 2003) comments in an article on the use of IoT to enable the next generation of health care services.
- Guy Champniss (PhD Leadership and Management 2013) has been appointed as the new Head of Behavioural Science at The Creative Engagement Group (TCEG).
- Goncagul Icoren (MSc International Human Resource Management 2013) features in a summary of Turkish talent working globally for Amgen, where she is Senior Director of Human Resources, ICON Region.
- Lynn von Koch-Liebert (MSc International Security 2014) has been reappointed Deputy Secretary of Housing Consumer Services at the Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency in Sacramento by Governor Newsom. She has held the role since 2017.
- Ava Patricia Avila (PhD Defence and Security 2016) has written a book review of ‘Money and Local Machines in Philippine Politics’ on Minda News.
- Dr Macmillan Dorugbo (PhD Operations Excellence) has been appointed as Head of the Department of Innovation and Technology at the College of Graduate Studies as Gulf University.
- Warren East (MBA 1990) is featured in an article ’10 things didn’t know about Warren East’ published by Money Inc.
- Charmaine Griffiths (MBA 2013) features in The Guardian, discussing the catastrophic impact of Covid-19 on the British Heart Foundation’s research funding and warning that the virus could set us back years on medical discoveries.
- Professor Abdulkarim Nasir (PhD Gas Turbine Applications 2013)has been promoted to Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. Professor Nasir was CSA President 2011-12 and was a visiting academic at Cranfield in the power and propulsion department from January 2019 – January 2020.
- Raphael Moura (MSc Offshore and Ocean Technology 2012) is set to take up the position of interim Director General of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), Brazil.
- Beatriz Ayala-Ostrom (MSc Transport Studies 1990) features in a profile article published by Skanksa Dagbladet.
- Joanna Davies (MBA 1994), Director of Davies Hickman Partners, discusses the company’s relocation to Henley in a piece published by MR Web.
- Bunmi Afolabi (MBA 2015) has been appointed as an advisory board member of Women in Technology in Nigeria.
- Alex Burns (Executive MBA 1999) is stepping down as President of Millbrook to pursue a portfolio career. Connor McCormack is set to take over as President as of 21 September.
- Peter Hutchison (Applied Marine Accident Investigation 2013) has been appointed Senior Vice President, Deputy Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Carnival Corporation – a leisure travel company.
- Frederic Smith (MBA 1983) has been named as President of the French Association of Third Parties Marketing.
- Karen Adie (MSc Management 2014) has written a piece for Business Day Nigeria, discussing the importance of female business owners for the country’s economy.
- Alejandro Reyes (MSc Sports Surface Technology 2007) features in an article published on the Ryder Cup website, discussing his role as former Golf Courses and Estate Manager at Le Golf National and his experiences of preparing the golf course for the 2018 competition.
- Hugh Pelham (MBA 1995) has been appointed as CEO at Carr’s Group, commencing in the role as of 4 January 2021.
- Erika Ramos Da Silva (MSc Aerospace Materials 2019) features in an interview with ISTAT discussing how she’s using what she learned during her studies in her current career.
- Omobola Johnson (DBA 2013) features in a ‘where are they now?’ article, published by Blueprint Ng.
- Lerato Yvonne Okeyo has been appointed independent Chairman of the Board at Insimbi Refactory and Alloy Supplies.
- Pallav Sethiya (MSc Management and Entrepreneurship 2018) is CEO and Co-Founder of Citispotter Limited, who have recently been named as the winner in the Equality category of the Oslo Innovation Week 100 Pitches 2020 global competition.
- Peter Kwok (MSc Finance and Management 2008) has been shortlisted for Charity Chair of the Year in the Third Sector Awards. The winners will be announced across two virtual events on 7 and 8 October.
