At Cranfield we have always prided ourselves on our closeness to business. It is something that our Masters students get to experience first-hand through their internships and projects as an integral part of their degree. Our Masters programmes are now looking for proposals for projects and internships for summer 2018 and beyond. Could you or your organisation help?

There are great benefits to hosting a project:

  • High quality research into areas that your organisation may not have the time, resources or expertise to address independently.
  • Customised and objective research, aligned to your business goals.
  • Bright, motivated and dedicated students.
  • Leading academics as project supervisors.
  • Access to the latest research insights and practical approaches.

Mark Phillips, from Northamptonshire-based industrial coatings company PPG, took on one of our Logistics and Supply Chain students for a project and the company is already reaping the benefits:

“For some time, our business has struggled to get a clear view on the correlation between production and inventory costs to identify the optimal batch size. Further difficulties came from unpredictable demands and seasonality of products.

“The student delivered a mathematical model that presents a clear picture of the cost correlation and recommendations to reduce its costs to optimal. The model also recommends a future state scenario to identify benefits from investment. [It is] now being rolled out to other manufacturing areas in the UK and then to other business units within Western Europe.”

It is also one of our 50 Ways to Support Your School and can make a real difference our students’ experience at Cranfield and beyond.

Imran Zawwar, Thesis Module Convener, Management MSc Programme, said: “These projects and internships are a true reflection of Cranfield School of Management’s motto ‘transforming knowledge into action’. We use a systematic approach with scientific evidence and link the solution to academic literature. As well as enhancing our students’ learning, it helps resolve our clients’ management challenges and also allows our academics to get involved with the latest industry trends and practices.”
