Most jobs are not advertised, they are filled via referrals and networks, however most of us find selling ourselves and networking uncomfortable and don’t know how to build contacts with target employers. Too often we retreat into “busy work”: Plenty of activity, lots of applications, but no results. In this webinar, Steve Dalton explains exactly who to contact, what to say and how to follow up.

Programme & speakers

Steve Dalton is head of daytime careers at Duke Fuqua School of Business and is the author of 'The 2-hour job search'. Steve writes about careers for the Huffington Post and the Financial Times and presents his method at business schools around the world.

In this webinar we will cover the key techniques you need to master to make this contact strategy work for you. For those familiar with the method already, Steve has updated advice on emailing potential new employers to share and will show how to make this type of contact as effective as possible.

  • Find people working in your target industry (and at particular employers)
  • Reach out to them in a brief email (less than 75 words)
  • Determine who will help you and who won’t
  • Secure informational meetings (on the phone or in person)
  • Build a network of advocates ready to refer you for jobs as they come up.
